Supposed Murders at New Bendigo

The 30th July 1858 edition of the Maryborough and Dunolly Advertiser ran a heading "Murders near New Bendigo". At the time I wondered where New Bendigo was and as I glanced over the article I could vaguely remember the name Raphael Caro from something else I had recently read. Raphael appeared to be one of the murder victims, so I printed off a copy to read at my leisure.

New Zealand Bushrangers

Joseph Thomas Sullivan left Victoria and became a member of New Zealand's first bushranging gang. For New Zealand this gang was the country's most bloodthirsty. He was probably also Victoria's most murderous bushranger but as he never got caught in Victoria he doesn't even get mentioned amongst the Victorian bushrangers. Here then is the story of a new Victorian bushranger.

Powell Family

About a year ago I bought from ebay, a number of sympathy cards addressed to a local Maryborough family, and so the mission began to find out about the Powell Family. William Gordon Powell died on 22nd January 1913. William was born to Emma Catherine Munro (spellings vary throughout various records- Monro, Munro, Munroe) and William Powell in 1880 with the birth registered in Maryborough. (BDM only has William as his name)
